I had this custom made about 16 or so years ago. It was made for our last house and I brought it with me when we moved here and now it is going in the Homestead house. The back board has been a few different colors now. It started out a dark sage green. Then it became a terracotta orange and now it is making its debut in turquoise. I am just loving the turquoise!

The beginning of the deck. I am seriously thinking about ditching the yellow and painting over it with the turquoise. For some reason I don't like it as well as I thought I would. What do you think? Should the yellow stay or go??? The turquoise is definitely staying. Oh and just so you know, the yellow is no where near the "pale" yellow that it appears in this picture. Its a very bright primary yellow. I think its just the romantic and feminine touch I wanted for our master bedroom...which is where you see it hanging in the picture.

I like this close up because you can really enjoy the details of the flowers. There are all kinds of these Tolle chandeliers out there, you just have to really hunt for them. There are tons of different flowers. I'm just hooked on them. If I could have afforded it there would be an antique Tolle light in every room of my home.

This is my most recent HUGE bargain. Richard found this on Craigs list for just $40.00. Get this....the mantel was about 45 minutes away from us and when Richard called about it and told the man we'd love to have it but it would take us a few to get there. Then the guy said "if your coming from that far to get it then you can have it for $25.00." We were shocked. When we got there it was just what we wanted and was as good as it looked in the pic to us so Richard handed the guy $30.00 and told him that 25 was just to little because we liked it and it was just what we wanted. After we left there we went bumming around in several antique stores in East Ridge that we knew of and have liked in the past and guess what??? We saw a similar sized mantel but it didn't have the awesome post on each side and it was $175. The green is almost impossible to get a perfect picture of the actual color, but you should be able to get a decent idea how it looks. We painted both side walls of the dining area and ran it right on into the living area, making 3 walls of the living room also lime green. The 4th living room wall is going to be a very bright yellow and continue up the steps and into the upstairs foyer...including the ceiling. I'll get you a pic of it soon.
Wondering what the 2 doors are? Well, the left hand door opens out and inside is a coat closet (in the very back of it is the hot water heater). The right hand door that opens in with a window in it is...wait for it...THE BATHROOM!!! Yes, our bathroom door has a window...lol. Fear not, we are either going to put in frosted glass (not our first choice cause we like the old wavy glass thats in there) OR it will get a very well fitted and lined curtain. No matter what we decide, one thing is absolutely for sure...we want to paint "OFFICE" on the outside of the window. After all, it is the room you do your "business" in, hehehe.
Till I post again.....PEACE OUT!!!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06823893122825375723noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526102879767837720.post-24844162431432546242012-02-19T20:11:00.003-05:002012-02-19T20:28:21.814-05:00Get out your sunglasses...PAINT TIME!!!!

Hope you LOVE color, cause I sure do. The photo with the window in it is actually more the true color. The one with Richard painting is WAY off the mark. We are having so much fun picking out our colors. Well, I am!! Richard loves all the colors and pretty much chose the one for the kitchen (I gave him a few to pick from, lol), but he can pick things out fast...which means he does start getting impatient a bit when I change my mind at least a half dozen time...LOL. I just want them perfect. I have had a LOT of homes over the years and have always went with colors that were within the "normal" range...but, I intend to never move again and I've decided I want to do something happy, cheery, and TOTALLY DIFFERENT to anything I've ever done before.
The turquoise color is the laundry/mud room, which obviously is just off the kitchen. While Richard was off at work in Michigan I went and got the supplies and started to get at it. I have watched our sheetrock finishers do this a 100 times for sure. Surely I could do it too. Well, I found out that I definitely can do it, BUT it is not as easy as it looked. I got some done and when Richard got home he said I had done a very good job.....but let me tell you...IT WAS TOUGH to get it right. Richard did most of the taping from that point on and I assisted some here and there. I did a bunch in the bathroom and then went back to assisting now and then. He finally finished all the taping as of today and everything has a good coat of mud. Now for sanding, more mud, and sanding some more. Sanding will be something new for me to try. Once again, I've seen it done a lot, but this will be my first time to do it myself. This is our kitchen sink. I am THRILLED with it. This was the second one we bought. First we found one in a town near us that was a bit newer. The back splash was just a few inches tall and it only had a left side drain board, but I thought it would do. THEN, Richard found this one on Craigslist out towards Nashville (all others we found like this had been far away or way to expensive for us) where he was going in just a few days to work. He called the guy and made arrangements and was able to get it while he was out there working (which means gas was on company tab and saved us money). Now your asking, so what did you do with the first one you bought? Well, we still have it and at first decided we would put it in the laundry room for washing all my wool hand washables, but changed my mind. I needed the room for something else in there. Now I know this will sound strange to many folks, but I'm seriously considering using it in the bathroom...yes, I know it has a drain board. I personally think it would be unique and interesting and that I might like it. After all, it is our home and as long as we are pleased, that is what really matters....soooo....let the strange decorating begin...lol.

We love it and its just beautiful. This will be the 3rd stove like this I have had the pleasure of using. I so love these old stoves because of the extra width. I like to do canning from the garden and with a regular stove if you have two canners going at the same time its hard for them to fit on a regular size stove....no canners bumping on this stove. Plus you get the extra drawers on the side and bottom. I keep pots in the bottom and lids in the left drawer. There is an avocado green one similar to this one in the house that I am renting now. I'm so glad I found a beautiful white one for our house.

What a deal, eh? Yes, right now it is sitting in our carport piled full of moving boxes, but it won't be long till it will be making its way to the house. I sure dread moving it.....it is sooooooooooo HEAVY!!!!

Sunday will be a fun day. We will be working in the upstairs of our house building two walls on each side of the staircase to make two bedrooms and building the walls for closets. I'm very excited to see the stud walls for this getting done because it gives you a much better idea of how your rooms will look.
Well, that's about all I have to report to you for now.....till the next post, Love thy Earth!!!!

Our son-in-law Daniel helped Richard with this. What a life saver he was. He's a very hard working young man and also one that seems to love to learn new construction stuff. We also painted all the rafters under the tin before we put it on. Doing that first made it much easier because then you didn't have to worry about getting it on the tin. I said we, but Richard painted the rafters and I painted the porch post. Helping him with the tin was hard but fun. He was on the porch roof and I was carrying it from the truck and handing it up to him. When you hold it up to hand it up to the roof you better pray the wind don't blow. LOL, its like a big sail and throws you off balance.
